Idea's of ways to raise money for charity

Bristol Dragon Boat Festival

Sunday 27th September 2009

Baltic Wharf Bristol Docks

The most fantastic fun you’ll ever have raising money for charity!

On Sunday 27th September the spectacular Funraisers Dragon Boat Festival is being held again at Bristol Docks. An exhilarating day for the competitors, a thrilling show for the spectators, and all in aid of a wide range of good causes.

The Challenge…
Get a team together to have an exhilarating day Dragon Boat Racing and raise sponsorship money for your charity.

The 27th September is your opportunity to be part of this fantastic event.

Crews of 16 paddlers (plus a drummer) will race in Chinese-style Dragon Boats over a 250 metre course. Crews do not need to be super fit or skilled to be successful – all that’s required is teamwork and a good sense of fun!

Dragon Boat racing is steeped in mythology and has been around for many thousands of years in China. Popular legend has it that through the racing, Chinese dragons would bring rain. We hope that this will not be the case on 27th September!

The racing will be run by leading events company The Organisation who provide the boats, helms, safety equipment, life-jackets and rescue boats.

The Reason…
Funraisers Dragon Boat Festival is a unique event which allows you to choose the charity for which you want to raise money. Each team that enters the races selects a charity and ALL the money they raise through sponsorship goes to that charity.

The Entertainment…
The racing will take place at Baltic Wharf, Bristol Docks. Funraisers Dragon Boat Festival has proved itself to be a fun day out for all the family at other venues …so bring your friends. You can see how our Festival is run at Bewl Water in Kent on www.funraisers.org.uk.

The Rewards…
Each crew will race with 16 paddlers plus the drummer in a boat. The entry fee per boat is £350, that’s £20 each for a great day to remember. However, we encourage teams to involve a few extra and to make available roughly 20 people on the day, and all raising money. We request that each team raise sponsorship of at least £1750 for their chosen charity…that’s at least £100 each for a good cause.

The Commitment…
This year we are asking each team to aim to raise at least £1750 for their charity. Achieving this commitment will assist with entry in future years. We wish to have teams who are keen to enter the event and are committed to achieving a good fundraising effort. We will ask every team for their commitment to fully support their charity.

The Opportunities…
…….for your team to raise funds through this event are endless. Many teams raise £3000, some £5000 and one has raised £17,000! Try for company sponsorship and/or raise funds for your team prior to the event with wine tasting evenings, barn dances, raffles etc
